For The Easy Days Near Water

Mom, I keep thinking about the days near water, with sunshine, friends around, laughter, and that easy feeling where nobody had to make the moment into anything bigger than it was.

When I was younger, I just knew those days felt good. Now I understand that part of why they felt so good was because of the life you helped create around me. You made room for joy that did not have to be complicated. You helped me learn that being alive could feel open, relaxed, and worth noticing.

I hope this Saturday brings you a little of that same ease, especially as you keep finding your steadiness again after surgery. I love you, Mom, and I’m really glad so many of my peaceful memories still have you in them.
